Closure of District Births and Deaths Registries

The Immigration Department announces today (June 25) that the following 3 registries will be closed with effect from June 30, 2003 (Monday):
i) Fanling District Births Registry;
ii) Tsuen Wan District Births and Deaths Registry; and
iii) Yuen Long District Births Registry.
"The closure of these registries is part of the Immigration Department's effort to rationalise and reorganise its office network to achieve efficient use of resources. In future, the network of immigration offices will be operated on the basis of five regions, namely Hong Kong Island, Kowloon East, Kowloon West, New Territories East and New Territories West. There will be sufficient immigration, registration of persons, births, deaths and marriage services provided in these regions to meet the public's demand. These offices and registries are all located at convenient places easily accessible and are well connected by mass transit systems," said the spokesman for the Immigration Department.
The following births and deaths registries will continue to provide services to members of the public:-
