Persons born in 1966 or 1967 must apply for new identity cards on or before 10 January 2004
5 December 2003
The Immigration Department today (December 5) reminded holders of existing identity (ID) card who were born in 1966 or 1967 to apply for smart ID cards on or before January 10, 2004.
"To avoid the last-minute rush, eligible applicants should submit their applications with the necessary supporting documents in person to any one of the Smart ID Card Centres as early as possible. To save the time for queuing, they are encouraged to make use of the appointment booking services by telephone at 1838 333, via the ESDlife website: www.esd.gov.hk, or at any ESD kiosks," the Immigration Department spokesman said.
The spokesman pointed out that the Smart ID Card Centres at East Kowloon, Sheung Shui and Tseung Kwan O had comparatively more available timeslots for booking. Eligible applicants may consider submitting applications at these centres.
"The Hong Kong Smart ID Card Replacement Exercise covers all residents in Hong Kong, whether they are permanent residents or temporary residents taking up employment, investment, residence, study or working as foreign domestic helpers. They should apply for the smart ID cards in accordance with their year of birth within the specified periods," the spokesman added.
For further information about the replacement exercise, please visit www.smartid.gov.hk or telephone the Immigration Department hotline at 2824 6111.
