Details of fourth cycle of ID card replacement exercise released

An Order announcing details of the fourth cycle of the Hong Kong Smart Identity (ID) Card Replacement Exercise has been issued by the Secretary for Security.

The Immigration Department said today (December 15) that subject to the negative vetting procedure of the Legislative Council, the arrangement for the fourth cycle would be as follows:

August 6, 2005

born in 1970 or 1971       
  August 8 to
September 24, 2005
 
       
Holders of existing ID cards    
born in 1972 or 1973   
  September 26 to           
November 12, 2005
 
         

The spokesman added that the Secretary for Security also issued the Registration of Persons (Application for New Identity Cards) (Amendment) Order 2004. Under that order, people referred to in section 3(1) of the Registration of Persons (Application for New Identity Cards) Order (Cap.177, sub.leg.E) would be provided with an option, from March 14, 2005 onwards, to apply for new ID cards before the periods specified for their age groups. The arrangement would facilitate their execution of duties or functions.
