Details of the fifth cycle of ID card replacement exercise released

An Order announcing details of the fifth cycle of the Hong Kong Smart Identity (ID) Card Replacement Exercise has been issued by the Secretary for Security.

The Immigration Department said today (June 8) that subject to the negative vetting procedure of the Legislative Council, the arrangement for the fifth cycle would be as follows:

Persons eligible to apply		Application Period
Holders of existing ID cards born in 1974 or 1975		November 14 to December 24, 2005
Holders of existing ID cards born in 1976 or 1977		December 28, 2005 to February 11, 2006
Holders of existing ID cards born in 1978 or 1979		February 13 to March 25, 2006
Holders of existing ID cards born in 1980, 1981 or 1982		March 27 to May 27, 2006
Holders of existing ID cards born in 1983, 1984 or 1985		May 29 to July 8, 2006

"The Immigration Department has been issuing smart ID cards since June 2003.  If you have already obtained a smart ID card at our Registration of Persons Office, there is no need for you to have your smart ID card replaced under this exercise," the spokesman added.
