"Residents who have already obtained a smart ID card at our Registration of Persons Office for reason of loss, damage and so on, do not need to have their smart ID card replaced under this exercise," the spokesman said.

"Since September, 2003, arrangements have been in place for residents born in 1943 through to 1977 to apply for new ID cards through the Smart ID Card Replacement Exercise," the spokesman said.

Most of the eligible applicants of these age groups had replaced their ID cards during their application periods. Those who, for special reasons, had not yet replaced their ID cards, should apply at any of the Smart ID Card Centres immediately.
