Documents to be enclosed with the application

Photostat copies of the following documents are required:-

  1. Hong Kong identity card (if any); and travel document showing your current condition of stay in Hong Kong;

  2. documentary proof in support of your claim to the status of permanent resident of the HKSAR:-

Claim by virtue of Photostat copies of documentary proof required
(i) Chinese citizens born in Hong Kong
  • your Hong Kong birth certificate
(ii) Chinese citizens resident in Hong Kong for not less than 7 years
  • proof of 7-year continuous ordinary residence in Hong Kong e.g. school documents, employment proof, official receipts, bank statements, income tax receipts, etc.
  • travel document showing entry to Hong Kong and the current condition of stay in the HKSAR (e.g. One-way Exit Permit and Document of Identity)

 

(iii) Chinese citizens born outside Hong Kong to a parent listed in (i) or (ii)

 

  • your birth certificate
  • Hong Kong permanent identity card of either parent
  • evidence showing the time when either parent has acquired the permanent resident status in Hong Kong e.g. travel documents
(iv) Non-Chinese citizens resident in Hong Kong for not less than 7 years
  • proof of 7-year continuous ordinary residence in Hong Kong immediately before the date of the application for permanent resident status e.g. school documents, employment proof, official receipts, bank statements, income tax receipt, etc.
  • travel document showing entry to Hong Kong and current condition of stay in the HKSAR
(v) Persons under 21 years of age born in Hong Kong of Non-Chinese citizens listed in (iv)
  • your Hong Kong birth certificate
  • Hong Kong permanent identity card of either parent

 

(vi) Persons with ROA in Hong Kong only before the establishment of the HKSAR
  • British passport showing the national status as 'British Overseas Citizen'
  • documentary proof of having the ROA in Hong Kong
(vii) Persons who were permanent residents of Hong Kong before 1 July 1997
  • your identity documents e.g. travel document such as British Dependent Territories Citizen passport or British National (Overseas) passport, birth certificate, registration certificate, naturalization certificate
  • proof of 7-year continuous ordinary residence in Hong Kong e.g. school documents, employment proof, official receipts, bank statements, income tax receipt, etc.
  • proof of permanent resident status by descent e.g. mother's birth certificate or naturalization certificate if by maternal descent, parents' marriage certificate and father's birth certificate or naturalization certificate if by paternal descent.

You will be notified in writing to give more information, if required.

  1. Non-Chinese citizens resident in Hong Kong for not less than 7 years applying for the status of permanent resident in the HKSAR are required to provide information and make a declaration that he/she has taken Hong Kong as his/her place of permanent residence before or after the establishment of the HKSAR. Declaration should be made on Form ROP 146 to be submitted with the application.

  2. Persons applying for the status of permanent resident in the HKSAR by virtue of having ROA in Hong Kong only immediately before the establishment of the HKSAR are required to make a declaration to that effect. Declaration should be made on Form ROP 147 to be submitted with the application.

  3. For applicants aged under 18, parent or legal guardian's identity card or travel document and proof of relationship with the applicant are also required.
