Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply, but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence to the required entry qualifications. They should submit their official transcripts and certificates later when requested.

'Grade C' or above and 'Grade D' in Use of English of the HKALE, or equivalent, are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' and 'Level 1' results respectively in the Use of English paper of the CRE. 'Grade C' or above and 'Grade D' in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' and 'Level 1' results respectively in the Use of Chinese paper of the CRE.

| Note 3 |
Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test are considered as having met the English language proficiency requirement (item (a)(i) of entry requirements) of the Immigration Officer post. The IELTS test result must be valid on the starting day of the application period, i.e. 25 February 2011.

Degree-holding applicants will be eligible for the degree pay point if they possess the requisite results in the Use of English and Use of Chinese papers in the CRE or equivalent at the time the offer of appointment is made.

For civil service appointment purpose, 'Grade C' and 'Grade E' in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE are accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 3' and 'Level 2' respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

Applicants are required to pass the written examination (Paper I) held by the Immigration Department in Hong Kong before they will be further considered for physical fitness test. Detailed arrangement of the examination will be announced in the Immigration Department website once it has been fixed. Applicants will normally receive letters of invitation at least one week before the date of examination.

Basic Law Assessment
For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Applicants who are invited to attend the written examination (Paper II) will be assessed on their BL knowledge through a written test on the same day. The BL test result will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of an applicant.
Duties
An Immigration Officer is mainly deployed on general executive and supervisory duties in connection with the enforcement of the immigration, registration of persons, births, deaths and marriage laws of Hong Kong. (Note: Subject to discipline, required to undergo a full-time induction training, wear uniform, work shifts and may be required to work in an area outside the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.)
Induction Training
Newly recruited Immigration Officers are required to undergo a 25-week residential induction training at the Immigration Service Institute of Training and Development.

(Note: Subject to discipline, required to undergo a full-time induction training, wear uniform, work shifts and may be required to drive government vehicles and work in an area outside the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.)
Induction Training

Selection Interview
The Selection Interview will commence on 7 February 2012. Candidates who have passed the Aptitude Test will individually receive an invitation letter for the Selection Interview before 20 February 2012. Candidates who are not invited for the Selection Interview are deemed unsuccessful in their applications.
Invited candidates may refer to the invitation letter for the interview arrangements, and study the location map of the Immigration Service Institute of Training and Development and the interview arrangements under inclement weather.
Invitation to Selection Interview does not imply that candidates have met the entry requirements for the post as it takes time to process all applications.
