Registration of Outbound Travel Information

1 December 2010

The Immigration Department today (December 1) announced that the Registration of Outbound Travel Information (ROTI) service will be launched on December 6. Those wishing to use the service can register at www.gov.hk/roti, starting next Monday.

"The ROTI, an online service under the MyGovHK platform, enables Hong Kong residents to register their contact details and itinerary outside Hong Kong," an Immigration Department spokesman said.

"The information provided will help the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department to contact and help Hong Kong residents in the event of an emergency outside Hong Kong.

"ROTI registrants will also receive updates on Outbound Travel Alerts (OTA) and related messages via their 'My Messages' mail box at MyGovHK and, depending on the situation, via SMS on mobile phone.

"Irrespective of whether a Hong Kong resident is a ROTI registrant and wherever the travel destination, the HKSAR Government is committed to offering timely and practicable assistance to Hong Kong residents in distress outside Hong Kong," he said.

The Immigration Department has also upgraded the telephone hotline 1868 by doubling its capacity, adding an automatic call distribution function and enhancing case management functions for more effective assistance to callers.

The launch of ROTI and the upgraded 1868 telephone hotline will further enhance the Immigration Department's effectiveness in rendering assistance to Hong Kong residents in distress outside Hong Kong.
