The Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) has been voted the winner of the 2015 Skytrax Award for Best Airport Immigration Service in the World Airport Survey commissioned by Skytrax, a specialist research agent of the air transport industry. The Director of Immigration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, received the award from the Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), Mr Fred Lam, in a presentation ceremony held yesterday (June 18) at the Hong Kong International Airport.

Skytrax, established in 1989 and based in the UK, mainly undertakes qualitative audits and research studies for airports and airlines across the globe. The survey conducted between May 2014 and January 2015 covered a total of 550 airports worldwide. More than 13 million survey questionnaires on the immigration services of various airports were collected from air passengers of 112 nationalities.

Mr Chan said he was delighted and encouraged by this award. "Being a regional aviation hub, the Hong Kong International Airport has a vital role to play. The ImmD has always strived for providing quality services with excellence and endeavoured to facilitate the coming of visitors to Hong Kong. Measures such as implementing non-stamping immigration clearance service and arrangements for reciprocal use of automated immigration clearance services with Korea, Singapore and Germany can all help shorten clearance time of passengers. Our efforts to provide quality services, as underlined by this award, are recognised by passengers from around the world," Mr Chan said. He also thanked his colleagues for their dedication and commitment to quality service, which has given visitors fond memories of Hong Kong. He encouraged front-line officers to continue to make concerted efforts to provide efficient services to travellers with courtesy and compassion.

Mr Lam added, "To facilitate the operation of the ImmD, the AA has proactively implemented enhancement measures including the provision of real-time estimated passenger traffic figures via a newly developed application that enables the deployment of ImmD's resources at opportune times. The AA is now setting up new enrolment booths to facilitate the provision of the ImmD's enrolment service to more frequent visitors for use of e-Channels. The AA also shares passengers' comments and feedback constantly to keep the ImmD abreast of passengers' expectations." Mr Chan also thanked the AA for its unfailing support in implementing various measures to facilitate the processing of passenger flow by the ImmD, thus enabling the provision of quality immigration clearance services to members of the public and visitors.
