e-Channel Service for Residents

Contactless e-Channel


“Contactless e-Channel” Service employs facial verification technology for eligible Hong Kong residents to perform self-service immigration clearance and enable Hong Kong residents to reduce contact with shared equipment during self-service immigration clearance; while providing faster, more convenient and hygienic immigration clearance service.

Eligibility Criteria

A Hong Kong resident holding smart identity card is eligible to enrol for the “Contactless e-Channel” if fulfilling the following criteria:

  1. A Hong Kong permanent resident aged 11 or above;
  2. A Hong Kong resident aged 11 or above holding a Document of Identity for Visa Purposes;
  3. A Hong Kong resident aged 11 or above who has the right to land or is on unconditional stay in Hong Kong; or
  4. A Hong Kong resident issued with a notification label (Hong Kong residents who stay in Hong Kong as foreign domestic helpers, students or imported workers are required to meet relevant eligibility criteria for enrolment of Contactless e-Channel service.)

Enrolment

Eligible Hong Kong residents may choose to enrol for the “Contactless e-Channel” free of charge via the following means:-

(I) Contactless e-Channel Mobile Application

Eligible Hong Kong residents could download the “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application to their mobile phones for free and install the "iAM Smart" mobile application in their mobile phones and complete the relevant registration before enrolment for identity verification by the “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application. Those aged 11-17 must obtain the consent from their parents or legal guardians in order to complete the enrolment.

Eligible Hong Kong residents aged 18 or above

  1. Install and open the “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application, and select “Enrol for Contactless e-Channel” to proceed the enrolment procedures;
  2. When the system is directed to "iAM Smart" mobile application automatically, login and give consent to provide personal data in "iAM Smart" to “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application; and
  3. Enrolment for the “Contactless e-Channel” Service is completed and the e-Channel QR code is also activated simultaneously.

Eligible Hong Kong residents aged 11-17

(Applicable to holders of new smart identity card and under the consent and assistance from parent / legal guardian)

  1. Install and open the “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application, and select “Enrol for Contactless e-Channel” to proceed the enrolment procedures;
  2. When the system is directed to "iAM Smart" mobile application automatically, login and give consent to provide personal data in "iAM Smart" to “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application;
  3. "Enrolment QR Code" will be displayed on the applicant’s mobile phone;
  4. The parent or legal guardian should open his /her “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application, select "Parent or legal guardian’s consent", then scan the “Enrolment QR Code” from the applicant's mobile phone and follow the instructions to complete the enrolment; and
  5. Enrolment for the “Contactless e-Channel” Service is completed and the e-Channel QR code is also activated simultaneously.

(II) Designated “Contactless e-Channel”

(Applicable only to eligible Hong Kong residents aged 18 or above)

  1. Place the new smart identity card onto the optical reader or insert the smart identity card into the card reader;
  2. Read and agree to the Declaration of the Applicant and Terms of Use;
  3. Follow the instructions to take back the identity card and enter the e-Channel;
  4. Stand at the footprint marking position and look at the camera for facial verification; and
  5. Leave the e-Channel after opening of the exit gate doors. Enrolment for the “Contactless e-Channel” Service and immigration clearance process are completed simultaneously.

Remarks:

  1. To complete the enrolment, the identity of the enrollee has to be successfully ascertained through facial verification; and
  2. After successful enrolment at the designated “Contactless e-Channel”, the enrollee could activate the “e-Channel QR code” by selecting “Activate / Transfer e-Channel QR code” in his / her “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application.

Remarks:

  1. Enrollee should present valid Hong Kong identity card and valid travel document (if applicable);
  2. Enrollee aged 11-17 must be accompanied by his / her parent or legal guardian for the enrolment;
  3. The parent or legal guardian should present his/her valid Hong Kong identity card or valid travel document (if applicable); and
  4. In general, enrollee aged 11-17 does not need to produce birth certificate or documents related to his/her guardianship that have been submitted upon application for Hong Kong identity card. If not applicable, enrollee will have to present his/her birth certificate or a court order (if appropriate) as proof of relationship. If any of the above documents is not in Chinese or English, a certified Chinese or English translation must be attached.

Using “Contactless e-Channel” Service

When using the “Contactless e-Channel” Service, enrolled Hong Kong resident is still required to carry his / her valid Hong Kong identity card and valid travel document (if applicable). The system will verify the Hong Kong resident’s identity through fingerprints when facial verification was unsuccessful.

I. By using e-Channel QR code

Enrolled Hong Kong resident should open the “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application and present the e-Channel QR code to the QR code reader of “Contactless e-Channel”. When the scanning process has finished, he / she will be able to enter the e-Channel; or

II. By using Smart Identity Card

Enrolled Hong Kong resident could place his / her new smart identity card onto the optical reader or insert his / her smart identity card into the card reader. When the reading process has finished, he / she will be able to enter the e-Channel.

Inside the e-Channel, he / she will be required to stand on the footprint marking position and look at the camera. After successful facial verification, he/ she can leave the e-Channel.

Cancellation of Enrolment

Enrolled Hong Kong residents could cancel their enrolment of the “Contactless e-Channel” Service through “Contactless e-Channel” mobile application or e-Channel enrolment offices. After cancellation of the enrolment, the “e-Channel QR code” would be deactivated immediately (if applicable).

The cancellation of enrolment is free of charge.

Mutual Use of QR Code between HKSAR and Macao SAR Clearance Service

Mutual Use of QR Code between HKSAR and Macao SAR Clearance Service aims at allowing Hong Kong residents using the e-Channel QR Code generated by the Contactless e-Channel Mobile Application for using the Automated Passenger Clearance Service in Macao SAR. Meanwhile, Macao residents may similarly use the QR code generated by Macao One Account Mobile Application for using the e-Channel Service in Hong Kong SAR. Nevertheless, Hong Kong residents/ Macao residents are still required to carry their valid Hong Kong / Macao identity cards when using the Mutual Use of QR Code between HKSAR and Macao SAR Clearance Service.
